This presentation will discuss strategies for how to prepare for and conduct mediations in cases that involve insurance coverage issues. We will also discuss a few great examples of what not to do based upon real past experiences.

Jamie Carsey is a Sr. Managing Director and Head of Litigation at Markel, where she oversees and manages the in-house coverage counsel division, the in-house attorneys who handle the extra-contractual claims and lawsuits against the Company, and Claims Compliance. Jamie also oversees all insurance-related litigation against the Markel entities in the United States. She also provides training to the Claims Department on coverage and litigation issues and assists Underwriting with drafting and revising policy language.

Prior to joining Markel, Jamie was an equity partner with the law firm Thompson, Coe, Cousins and Irons, where she was the vice-president of the Insurance Coverage Practice Group. Her practice focused on insurance coverage matters and breach of contract and bad faith litigation, including trials, in multiple jurisdictions. 

Jamie is passionate about and committed to volunteering and service opportunities as well as diversity, inclusion, and equity initiatives. Jamie currently serves as the leader of the Markel Claims Diversity & Inclusion Committee. She volunteers for numerous organizations, and she is a current member of the Board for the Houston Chapter of the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation.
